News from the Executive Director

“This we know…all things are connected. Like the blood that unites one family, all things are connected. Man did not weave the web of life…he is merely a strand in it. What he does to the web, he does to himself.” - Chief Seattle

Zootopia’s mission is to raise awareness, empower with knowledge, and inspire actions that will restore balance for nature, the planet and all of its inhabitants.

Dear Friend,

As we greet 2011 with enthusiasm and hope, Zootopia is proud to be a part of making our beautiful Earth a cleaner, greener, more balanced planet…for the environment…for the animals…for YOU. In our short history as a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate, empower, and inspire both children and adults to take small steps daily that make a huge difference globally, we are grateful for your interest in our mission and programs.

As you may know, we present programs that include wildlife education (with the help of our animal teachers, such as our Russian Tortoise, “Wilhelmina”), eco-education, and green living. Our programs are geared toward children of all ages, but can easily be adapted for adults. We work with families, groups, schools, and state and local government agencies to engage our audiences in learning that is fun, interesting and inspirational. In 2010, we educated more than 1,000 people, working with schools, families, California State Parks, and the Girl Scouts Council. Zootopia maintains a 5-star rating on GreatNonProfits.org.

In 2011, Zootopia’s goals include:

  • Developing a Summer Day Camp Program
  • Educating 3,000 people…or more
  • Securing a permanent office, small kennel, and site for programs
  • Establishing a participation scholarship program for children in foster care
  • Hiring two part time staff members (currently all work is pro bono)
  • Establishing a donor base to create sustainability

We can’t do this alone, however…we need your help! As a public nonprofit organization, Zootopia relies on the generosity of wonderful people like you to help fund our programs. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution. It’s really easy to help…

  1. Send a donation*:
Credit Card - Visit our website at www.zootopia.org and click on the “Donate Now” button
Check/Money Order - Send contribution to:
      Zootopia
      9452 Telephone Rd. PMB #280
      Ventura, CA 93004
    * Double Your Contribution!  Does your company provide corporate matches to your donation?  Ask you HR Department for details!

  2. Send us your mailing address*:
This way we can establish a mailing list and communicate with your via mail as well as internet and email.  This will help us develop sustainability, as we can provide information and sign up forms in our quarterly newsletters, as well as include return evelopes to make it easier for you to donate.  Go to our website at www.zootopia.org and fill out the form on our home page to update your information.
    * If you prefer to communicate only by email, we will certainly honor that—just let us know.

We know you have a choice in which nonprofits you support. We thank you, on behalf of our incredible planet and all her creatures, for supporting Zootopia…by sending a donation today…by participating in our educational (and fun!) programs…and by caring for the Earth through your daily actions.

May 2011 bring you many blessings, and bring you into the joyful circle of Zootopia!

Gratefully,

Carrie Sylvester
